Proceeding contribution from Lord Soley (Labour) in the House of Lords on Monday, 5 December 2005. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Civil Aviation Bill.

Civil Aviation Bill

I am all for a bit more consultation but my consultation with the Airport Operators Association was quite interesting in its own right. I invited the association to consider approaching the Minister, or myself, with a suggested amendment. It is true that I have not had one yet, but that may not be surprising given that the association met only four or five weeks ago. However, we cannot ignore the central issue, which is that air transport will dramatically increase. That has environmental consequences, and to ignore that is perverse in the extreme. I know that the Minister and the Government do not want to ignore it; what I am proposing is a small but very important way in which to bear down on those pollution effects.
