Proceeding contribution from Lord Bradshaw (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Lords on Monday, 5 December 2005. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Civil Aviation Bill.
Civil Aviation Bill
I was certainly not intending to regulate Barra, Scilly or the Shetland Isles. I was referring to aerodromes—to use the official term—situated where there are lots of people. I know that there are certain designated aerodromes—the noble Lord, Lord Smith, who is here, is chairman of Manchester Airport, for example—that comply. But there are lots of other quite big airports that may not be subject to restrictions on noise or emissions. I believe that somewhere it should say in the Bill that—to avoid the wretched word ““aerodrome””—significant airport operators should be subject to rules.
